SEPTEMBER 2009

Secret Masters are pleased to announce that their 2nd album ‘Words, Power, Sound’, will be released in Australia and New Zealand on the 6th of November 2009. The initial pressing will be a Limited Edition Double CD containing Vocal and Instrumental versions. It is being released on the Master Tunes label, with distribution by The Planet Company/MGM.

Secret Masters will be launching ‘Words, Power, Sound’ in Melbourne and Sydney in November, as well as doing other shows to support the release. Click on the ‘Releases’ tab to read all the details about the album.

The first single taken from ‘Words, Power and Sound’ is ‘Black Culture’, featuring UK rapid-fire vocalist Tippa Irie. The B-side contains a Mad Professor Dub of ‘Black Culture’. It’s a Rub’ a ‘Dub style tune, which is given the full Ariwa Studio treatment in Mad Prof’s inimitable remix style.

These 2 tracks are also available on a very special Seven Inch Vinyl pressing. Numbers are limited, so be quick if you want to secure a copy. Click on the ‘Releases’ tab to read more. Look out for the ‘Black Culture’ Video Clip. Filmed in London with Tippa Irie and then manipulated and animated by John Power (who works with us when we play live doing video projections), the clip is currently travelling around Australia as part of the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF).

To all Dub/Reggae fans eagerly awaiting the next Secret Masters release, fear not. It is on the way and it is loaded with a heavyweight selection of original riddims and guests.

This time around we went to the source - Jamaica - to record some hot talent, new and established. In Kingston we linked up with Kulcha Knox and Shanti Reblah. In Mo’Bay we had Mad Doggy Dog on the mic for a killa Weed anthem for all the Herbalists dem. We also had Tippa Irie in the studio while he was on tour in Melbourne as well as having the UK's Mad Professor do a crazy dub remix of a brand new Tippa tune. Kylie Auldist is back with 2 huge tracks as well as local legend Bunny Wallace (ex Lion) and uk singer Natty “original bubbler” Wailer with some soulful vibes. It is packed full of Irie surprises and should be out soon.

We have put out a couple of new tracks in the meantime though.

Look out for "Melbourne Yard", a Radio 3PBS FM compilation that showcases the strength of the Melbourne Dub/Reggae scene in 2006. We’ve collaborated with fellow dubsmith, I-Sonic Selecta, on a tune called "Hot Love" featuring the vocals of Lee Perry. Other artists on the disc include The Red Eyes, Beam Up, Peyote Soundsystem, Mista Savona and more. You won’t be able to buy this release though. The only way to get a copy is by subscribing to 3PBS. www.pbsfm.org.au

The "Not Drowning Waving" remix album containing our version of "Blackwater" is also out now. It’s called "Maps for Sonic Adventurers", released by Liberation Music, and contains 17 reinterpretations of songs from NDW’s vast back catalogue. We’ve given their track a stripped back dub makeover and NDW drummer Russel Bradley said it’s his favourite remix out of them all.www.notdrowningwaving.com.

Bless, laters.

SECRET MASTERS ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO JAMAICA PRIOR TO COMMENCING RECORDING THEIR NEXT ALBUM. DONNIE DUB SAYS “ Melbourne is a wikid city but it does not have quite the same vibes as JA. We need to get some of those real vibes b4 we get deep into the next one. Whaddaya say Dokta Congo?” On that tip, lets hope hurricane Ivan didn’t do too much damage recently.
